As awards season continues on, Broadway alums of the past and present remain contenders in nearly every category. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced the nominations for their annual ceremony January 19, with Broadway talent of the past and present appearing throughout the shortlist. Winners will be named February 19 in a ceremony set to be broadcast worldwide.

Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin, Baz Luhrmann's Elvis, and the theatrically adjacent film Tár all received nods for Best Film, with McDonagh and Tár director Todd Field also picking up nominations for Best Director. Movie musical Matilda was recognized as an Outstanding British Film, as was The Banshees of Inisherin, and Brett Morgan's documentary Moonage Daydream, which features footage of David Bowie's Broadway debut in The Elephant Man, received a nod for Best Documentary.

Cate Blanchett and Viola Davis both received Leading Actress nominations for their appearances in Tár and The Woman King, respectively, and the Leading Actor category is filled to the brim with Broadway and West End talent, including Austin Butler for Elvis, Brendan Fraser for The Whale, Daryl McCormack for Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, Paul Mescal for Aftersun, and Bill Nighy for Living.

The supporting performance categories are similarly stacked, with the Supporting Actress category recognizing Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Hong Chau for The Whale, and Carey Mulligan for She Said, and the Supporting Actor category recognizing Eddie Redmayne in The Good Nurse.

Both McDonagh and Field received nods for Best Original Screenplay, and playwright Samuel D. Hunter received a nomination for his adaptation of his play The Whale.

In the creative categories, The Banshees of Inisherin received nods for Best Original Score and Editing, Elvis received nods for Best Editing, Casting, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Makeup and Hair, and Sound, Matilda received a nod for Best Makeup and Hair, The Whale received a nod for Best Makeup and Hair, and Tár received a nod for Best Sound.
