PEAK Performances at New Jersey's Montclair State University has revealed its 2024-2025 season, which will include concert performances of Michael John LaChiusa's Queen of the Mist featuring the work's original star, Broadway favorite Mary Testa.
Kirsten Sanderson will direct the concert performances, playing February 20-23, 2025, at the institution's Alexander Kasser Theater.
Queen of the Mist features words and music by LaChiusa (The Gardens of Anuncia, The Wild Party) and orchestrations by Michael Starobin. The work was commissioned by Off-Broadway's Transport Group, which gave it a world premiere in 2011 with Testa leading the cast.
Testa will once again star as Annie Edson Taylor, a real-life figure who was the first woman to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel and survive. Further casting is to be announced. The performances are being presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
PEAK is also presenting a sing-along screening of Encanto October 12, a concert evening with Tony winner Laura Benanti November 16, and more. Find a full schedule and tickets at PeakPerfs.org.
