The film, which made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, will then open in limited release Jan. 15, 2016.
Oscar winner Maggie Smith reprises her stage role in the Sony Pictures Classics film, which features direction by Nicholas Hytner.
Smith, a Tony winner for her performance in Lettice and Lovage, and currently popular for playing the Dowager Countess in the TV series "Downton Abbey," plays Miss Mary Shepherd, "an eccentric woman of uncertain origins, who 'temporarily' parked her broken-down van in Bennett’s London driveway — and proceeded to live there for the next 15 years," according to a previous description.
The film casts Alex Jennings as playwright Bennett with Frances de la Tour, Roger Allam, Dominic Cooper, Jim Broadbent and James Corden.
Director Hytner produces along with Damian Jones and Kevin Loader.
