Maestra Music's annual Amplify concert is moving to Sony Hall this year, with the event set for March 25 at 8 PM.
The evening will celebrate female composer-lyricists and their work, with songs from Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Susan Birkenhead, Amanda Green, Rebekah Greer Melocik, Brandy Hoang Collier, Clare Fuyuko Bierman and Erika Ji, Christine Lavin, and more. Jessica Ryan is directing.
Julianne B. Merrill is music directing the performance. She will lead a band comprising Monica Davis on violin, Ann Klein on guitar, Merrill on piano, Noelle Rueschman on reeds, Shirazette Tinnin on drums, Melissa Westgate on cello, and Mary Ann McSweeney on bass. Kristy Norter is music coordinator.
Performers and a host are to be announced.
Founded by Georgia Stitt, Maestra Music works to provide support, visibility, and community to women and non-binary musicians working in the musical theatre industry.
"This is our fourth annual Amplify concert, and we get bigger and better every year," says Stitt in a statement. "Amplify audiences come for the amazing performances but leave empowered to take Maestra's work back into their own communities. It really is a celebration that starts at the end of Women's History Month and continues for the next 11 months of the year!"
Filmed in 2023, the one-night-only event featured Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald, Peter Friedman, and more from the Ahrens and Flaherty musical's original cast.
Surrounded by period-accurate, 19th-century holiday decorations lit via candlelight, the 70-minute production is based on Dickens' own script of the classic.
