Sure, it's not even Thanksgiving yet, but that doesn't mean you can't start listening to holiday songs. And Broadway star Katie Rose Clarke has the newest song for your celebrations: "Margarita Christmas," which she co-wrote with composer, producer, and musical director Steven Jamail. Listen to the new song in the video above.
The song came about because Jamail was asked to write a holiday song for a festival. So he turned to his longtime collaborator Clarke (who he has known since high school). The night of their writing session, she said, “Grab a bottle of tequila on the way, and we’ll have a margarita Christmas as we write.” Hence the title of the song.
As Clarke told Playbill, the two are from Houston, Texas, where "Christmas is its own thing. It’s sometimes not super cold, leaves don’t change—so a margarita always sounds good. We wanted to write a song that felt like our version of Christmas with a two step and some sass.”
"Margarita Christmas" is now available to stream on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music / iTunes, and all streaming services.
Clarke's previous Broadway credits include the 2023 revival of Merrily We Roll Along, Allegiance, and Wicked (where she played Glinda on tour and on Broadway).
Jamail’s arrangements and orchestrations have been performed on Oprah, Howard Stern, Rachel Ray, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Martha Stewart, The NBC Tree Lighting at Rockefeller Center, and the American Songbook series at Lincoln Center.
