Lincoln Clauss (Rent) and Joanna A. Jones (Hamilton) will lead The Old Globe's upcoming run of Kander and Ebb's Cabaret as The Emcee and Sally Bowles, respectively. Performances will run September 1–October 8 at the San Diego, California, theatre, with opening night set for September 6. Josh Rhodes (Bright Star) is directing and choreographing.

The upcoming production originated at Florida's Asolo Repertory Theatre last year. Clauss reprises his performance from that earlier iteration. Additional casting and creative team will be announced.

Based on Christopher Isherwood's Goodbye to Berlin and John Van Druten's dramatization of it, I Am a Camera, Cabaret is set in Weimar-era Berlin as American writer Clifford Bradshaw arrives to work on his novel and soak up the debaucherous nightlife. He meets English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and a complex relationship develops, all as the Nazis ascend to power and the specter of World War II and all its horrors loom on the horizon. The 1966 musical features a book by Joe Masteroff and a score by John Kander and Fred Ebb, the latter including such favorites as "Willkommen," "Don't Tell Mama," "Mein Herr," "Maybe This Time," and "Cabaret."

A currently running West End revival of the musical recently announced a Broadway transfer that will begin performances at the August Wilson Theatre in spring 2024.
