Tony winners Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In the Heights) and Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple) are to be honored by the Royal Academy of Music in recognition of their respective impacts on the world of music.

Miranda will be granted an honorary doctorate, and Erivo will be made an honorary member of RAM.

Other honorees include actor Patricia Routledge; founder of Psappha Ensemble, Tim Williams; pianist Tom Poster; the Academy’s Klemperer chair of conducting Semyon Bychkov; musical director, pianist, and composer Allyson Devenish; violinist Susan Collier; singer Helena Dix; orchestrator and conductor Cliff Masterson; pianist James Baillieu; and composer and singer Judith Bingham.

2022 marks the 200th anniversary of the conservatory, widely considered to be the preeminent music school in the United Kingdom.

RAM principal Jonathan Freeman-Attwood said, "We are immensely proud of the academy’s 200-year history and its position as the oldest conservatoire in Britain, but the bicentenary is primarily about looking to the future.

"I’m delighted that this very distinguished group of honorands will be a part of the celebration, as they represent the very broad range of musical disciplines we teach and in which our students excel all over the world."

Honors will be conferred in July at the 2022 graduation ceremony.
