The Off-Broadway production of Mitch Albom's Tuesdays with Morrie, starring Tony winner Len Cariou (Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music), has announced a three-week extension. Originally slated to close March 23, the production will now play additional performances April 1-20.

Tuesdays with Morrie officially opened March 7 at St. George's Episcopal Church. Previews began March 1.

Joining Cariou in the cast is Chris Domig as Mitch. The production also features vocalist (and Playbill Search for a Star winner) Sally Shaw, with original music written and performed on piano by Domig.

Adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher and Albom from the latter's book, Tuesdays With Morrie follows Albom as he reconnects with a former sociology professor after learning he's battling Lou Gehrig's disease.

Erwin Maas is directing the new production, which features set and lighting design by Guy de Lancey and sound design by Eamon Goodman. James Fitzsimmons is stage manager.

The staging is a production of Sea Dog Theater.

“Sea Dog Theater is thrilled by the overwhelming response to our sold-out run of Tuesdays with Morrie," says production star and Sea Dog Theater Artistic Director Domig in a statement. "It has been a two-year journey to bring this play to the stage and we are grateful to all who have supported and encouraged us along the way. Mitch Albom’s story is universal and particular, timeless and rooted in the present. It raises questions no one can escape, yet few dare to ask. Tuesdays with Morrie challenges us to consider how to live a meaningful life and who shapes our search to become more fully human. As a company dedicated to telling stories of alienation and reconciliation, we are honored to continue a production that so beautifully aligns with our mission.”
