The Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. will honor Tony and Academy Award nominee Laura Linney at its 10th anniversary gala on October 15.
Linney, who studied at Juilliard under Michael Kahn (STC’s artistic director), will receive the William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre during the gala event.
The Will Award recognizes outstanding contribution to classical theatre in America. Other artists to receive the honor include Charles Dance, Julie Taymor, Sir John Hurt, Stacey Keach, Dame Diana Rigg, Annette Bening, Sir Ian McKellen, Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Dame Judi Dench, Fiona Shaw, Ralph Fiennes, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Dame Maggie Smith, Sir Patrick Stewart, Sam Waterston, Christopher Walken, Morgan Freeman, Sir Kenneth Branagh, Christopher Plummer, Kevin Kline, the late Joseph Papp, and STC Artistic Director Kahn.
Linney was recently on Broadway in a revival of Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes. Linney earned her fourth Tony nomination for her performance in the production. She also appears in the new Netflix series Ozark. Linney made her Broadway debut in a 1992 revival of The Seagull. Her stage work also includes Hedda Gabler, Uncle Vanya, The Crucible, Sight Unseen, and Time Stands Still. Her numerous screen credits include The Big C, John Adams, You Can Count On Me, Kinsey, Love Actually, Frasier, and more. She will reunite with Olympia Dukakis for the Netflix return of Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City.
