Krysta Rodriguez (The Collaboration, Spring Awakening) will lead Barrington Stage Company's upcoming production of Kander and Ebb's Cabaret, set to run at the Massachusetts theatre June 18–July 8. Rodriguez will star as Sally Bowles, sharing the stage with Alysha Umphress (On the Town, Mr. Saturday Night at BSC) as Fraulein Kost and Richard Kline (Three's Company, Waitress) as Herr Schultz.
Barrington's Cabaret will be directed by new Artistic Director Alan Paul, with Katie Spelman choreographing. The production will feature set design by Wilson Chin. Additional casting will be announced.
The musical, which premiered on Broadway in 1966, features a book by Joe Masteroff (from John Van Druten's play I Am a Camera and stories by Christopher Isherwood) and a score with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Set in Weimar-era Germany, the story follows an American writer living in Berlin during the rise of Adolph Hitler. The score introduced such songs as "Willkommen," "Don't Tell Mama," and the title number.
The theatre has also revealed that its 2023 season on the Boyd-Quinson Mainstage will be completed by a production of Sanaz Toossi's English, running September 27–October 15. The work, the 2022 Lucille Lortel and Obie Award winner for Best Play, premiered in 2022 in a co-production from Atlantic Theater Company and Roundabout Theater Company.
As previously announced, the Boyd-Quinson season will also include Pearl Cleage's Blues For an Alabama Sky, running July 18–August 5; and William Finn's A New Brain, running August 16–September 9. The theatre's St. Germain Stage will host the world premiere of Mark. St. Germain's The Happiest Man on Earth, May 24-June 17; Mike Lew's tiny father, July 1–23; and Brian Friel's Faith Healer, August 1–27.
