How Great Thou Art: A Sacred Celebration, which will feature a 25-piece ensemble of The American Pops Orchestra, will be held May 16 at United Methodist in Washington, D.C. The evening will be filmed for TV with a broadcast partner to be announced at a later date.
With performances across classical, pop, Motown, and country genres, the lineup will include Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked; You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown); Grammy winners Patti LaBelle, Sandi Patty, and Will Liverman; and Luke Frazier, the founder and music director of The American Pops Orchestra.
Guest vocalists will include Sean Bell, Rachelle Fleming, Brittany Chanell Johnson, Hilary Morrow, Chris Richie, and Chris Urquiaga, plus singers from The Congressional Chorus, Howard University, George Mason University, The Reston Chorale, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
“Since a very early age, some of the music that has inspired me the most is from being raised in the church,” says LaBelle. “That music created a foundation for my love of singing. And I have never lost that love and passion for this music. No matter your religion or beliefs, sacred music has the power to inspire, uplift, motivate, and comfort us. I am so grateful to share some of this inspiring music with you alongside my dear friends Kristin Chenoweth and Sandi Patty. I hope you will join us for this very special evening!”
