Broadway's Kimberly Akimbo is partnering with nonprofit Hear Your Song for a concert evening at The Green Room 42. Set for November 12 at 7 PM, proceeds from the evening will benefit Hear Your Song's efforts to empower young people with major health needs via collaborative songwriting.

The concert will feature songs from Kimberly Akimbo, with music by Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire; and Hear Your Song. Scheduled to perform from the Broadway company are Justin CooleyAlli Mauzey, Betsy Morgan, Miguel Gil, and Alex Vinh. They will be joined by children and teens from Hear Your Song.

The evening is part of a larger relationship between the show and Hear Your Song, which has seen Tesori and Lindsay-Abaire lead master classes for kids involved with the nonprofit.

“I really appreciate people like you guys bringing more awareness, making people who do struggle…not feel quite so alone,” a 16-year-old student said to Tesori and Lindsay-Abaire at a March virtual master class. She went on to speak about the empowering experience of hearing the songs from Kimberly Akimbo and thinking, “‘Yes! Yes, that is what it’s like.'"

"We are thrilled to partner with the Kimberly Akimbo team to bring this extraordinary opportunity to the Hear Your Song community," says Hear Your Song Executive Director and Co-Founder Dan Rubins. "Just as Kimberly Akimbo celebrates its heroine as a whole human being who isn’t defined by her diagnosis but by her passions and friendships and sense of humor, Hear Your Song lets kids share whatever part of themselves they want to lift into song, whether that’s loving pasta or living with epilepsy. We’re grateful to the company of Kimberly Akimbo for telling this powerful story, and we’re so excited to have them helping the brilliant kids in the Hear Your Song community tell their stories now, too.”

2023's Best Musical Tony winner, Kimberly Akimbo continues its run at Broadway's Booth Theatre. The musical, about a 16-year-old girl with a rare genetic disease that makes her look 72, had its world premiere Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company in 2021, directed by Jessica Stone, who also helms the Broadway transfer. The complete cast from that run continued on for the Broadway bow. The work was adapted from Lindsay-Abaire's play of the same name with a book and lyrics by Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori.

Along with Best Musical, the show took home wins for its book, score, Featured Actress (Bonnie Milligan), and Leading Actress (Victoria Clark) at this year's Tony Awards.

The production is directed by Stone, whose creative team also includes music director Chris Fenwick, orchestrator John Clancy (with additional orchestrations by Macy Schmidt), scenic designer David Zinn, costume designer Sarah Laux, lighting designer Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, sound designer Kai Harada, projection designer Lucy MacKinnon, and wig, hair, and make-up designer J. Jared Janas.
