Transport Group Theatre Company will host industry readings of the new musical Split March 20 and 21. Starring Katie Thompson (Oklahoma!), the musical conceived by Michele Lowe features a book by Lowe and music and lyrics by Zoe Sarnak.
Joining Thompson will be Kerstin Anderson (My Fair Lady), Tyrone Davis, Jr. (Waitress), Katrina Rose Diderikson, Santino Fontana (Tootsie), Jason Gotay (Gossip Girl), Monica Ramirez, and Jacob Keith Watson (Merrily We Roll Along).
Split follows a mother and daughter on a trip to the Grand Canyon in 1953. The pair share a love for science, and mother Lillian hopes that throughout the trip she can inspire daughter Amy to leave her fiancé and enroll in college, but by the end of their journey together, it's Amy who directs her mother on a different path.
The musical is part of Transport Group's New Works Program, which aims to support new works from commission to full production. The program's 20th Century Project selects a work representing each decade of the last century to represent our country's growth throughout the decades, with Split representing the 1950s. Past productions include Queen of the Mist (1900s), I Remember Mama (1910s), and Strange Interlude (1920s).
