The performance piece reflects on pandemic trauma and coping with isolation, loss, and anxiety.

Karen Finley

Renowned performance artist Karen Finley's COVID Vortex Anxiety Opera Kitty Kaleidoscope Disco will have an encore engagement at the Laurie Beechman Theatre this fall.

The work, encapsulating pandemic trauma, isolation, loss, and anxiety, had an acclaimed run at the venue last April. Return dates are September 23 and 30 at 7 PM.

COVID Vortex Anxiety Opera Kitty Kaleidoscope Disco explores the grief and trauma of living in New York City during the COVID-19 pandemic through monologues, disco music, performances of pandemic activities like Zoom meetings and baking, and the overarching message that with times of hopelessness, art can restore hope.

Obie winner Finley is a performing artist, writer, musician, poet, teacher, and lecturer. Previous works include Make Love, George & Martha, The Jackie Look, The American Chestnut, A Certain Level of Denial, and The Return of The Chocolate Smeared Woman and Written in the Sand.
