Kansas City Repertory Theatre will open its 60th anniversary season with a new adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac, written by Edmond Rostand, freely adapted by Martin Crimp, and directed by Nelson T. Eusebio III. Set to run September 5-24, the production will blend spoken word and contemporary poetry to retell the classic tale of Cyrano and his tragic love Roxane.

The production will feature James Chen as Cyrano de Bergerac, Ito Aghayere as Roxane, Christopher Rivas as Christian, Khalif J. Gillett as Lignière/Montfleury, Jimmy Kieffer as De Guiche, Eileen Rivera as Leila Ragjeneau, and Bradley J. Thomas as Le Bret. They will be joined by an ensemble consisting of Dri Hernaez, Nico Holguin, Craig Marcus Lindsay, and Will Porter.

Said Eusebio III, “I am thrilled to be directing this fresh adaptation of Rostand’s classic story of swashbuckling action, hilarious characters, and heartbreaking romance. Cyrano has been on my ‘bucket list’ of plays to direct, and I am so excited to share my vision for this classic in a new version by Martin Crimp featuring an incredible cast, contemporary design, and language that will make you swoon.”
