Off-Broadway News John Lithgow Will Direct Douglas McGrath in Solo Show at Off-Broadway's DR2 Theatre

Two-time Tony and six-time Emmy winner John Lithgow will direct the world premiere of Oscar nominee Douglas McGrath's autobiographical solo show, Everything's Fine, at Off-Broadway's DR2 Theatre.

Also starring McGrath, previews will begin September 28 prior to an official opening October 13.

Everything’s Fine recounts McGrath’s life as a 14-year-old in Midland, Texas. He shares remembrances of the courtship of his one-eyed father and his mother, who worked at Harper’s Bazaar for Diana Vreeland and became pals with Andy Warhol; and an eighth-grade teacher who would change his life.

“This is a high-wire act of a play that alternately delights and blindsides you with emotion,” says Lithgow. “Doug is a very funny man, sharing a deeply personal story that leaves listeners slack-jawed. The intimate DR2 Theatre is the perfect home for it, and we cannot wait for New York audiences to discover the secrets of Everything’s Fine.”

McGrath wrote the libretto for Broadway's Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. He also co-wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay for Bullets Over Broadway and wrote and directed Emma, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, and Toni Colette. He began his career as a writer for Saturday Night Live and has been a contributor to The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and The New Republic.

Lithgow won Tonys for his performances in Sweet Smell of Success and The Changing Room. He was also nominated for his roles in The Columnist, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Requiem for a Heavyweight, and M. Butterfly.

The production will also have set design by two-time Tony winner John Lee Beatty, costume design by Tony winner Linda Cho, lighting design by Caitlin Smith Rapoport, and sound design by Emma Wilk. The production stage manager is Amy Rauchwerger.

Tony winner Daryl Roth and Emmy winner Tom Werner produce.
