Broadway News John Lithgow Shares Why He Thinks His Reviews for Stories By Heart Are His Best Ever The Tony and Emmy winner hit The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss his Broadway return and The Crown.

John Lithgow visited The Late Show with Stephen Colbert January 15 to talk about his Broadway return in Stories by Heart, which opened January 11. Lithgow explains the inspiration behind the solo evening of stories and reflects on the strength of the reviews.

Lithgow also discusses his recent Emmy-winning performance as Winston Churchill on Netflix's The Crown and his friendship with fellow actor Gary Oldman, who just won a Golden Globe playing Churchill in the film Darkest Hour.

John Lithgow: Stories by Heart is currently playing at the American Airlines Theatre in a production presented by Roundabout Theatre Company. Inspired by Lithgow's life and career, Stories by Heart traces the two-time Tony winner's roots as an actor and storyteller, centering around readings of classic short stories by Ring Lardner and P.G. Wodehouse that were read to him as a child.

Stories by Heart is directed by Daniel Sullivan and runs through March 4.

Lithgow was last seen on Broadway in 2014 opposite Glenn Close in a revival of Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance. He won Tony Awards for his performances in Sweet Smell of Success and The Changing Room. He is also a two-time Academy Award nominee for Terms of Endearment and The World According to Garp.
