Joanna Vanderham (Double Feature, Richard III, Crime, The Runaway) will play Blanche Du Bois in Sheffield Theatres' upcoming production of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire.
Directed by Josh Seymour (Spend, Spend, Spend), performances of the Williams classic are scheduled for March 1–29 in the Crucible Theatre. Opening night is March 6.
Additional casting and creative team members will be announced at a later date.
A Streetcar Named Desire is set in 1940s New Orleans as fading Southern belle Blanche Du Bois seeks solace with her estranged sister Stella. Her delicate sensibilities create instant suspicion in Stella’s unrestrained husband Stanley, as they collide in a struggle for Stella’s heart.
A Streetcar Named Desire premiered on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in December 1947, playing 855 performances before closing in December 1949. Directed by Elia Kazan, the original company boasted Jessica Tandy as Blanche, Marlon Brando as Stanley, and Kim Hunter as Stella.
Williams' play was awarded the 1948 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The upcoming production is presented by arrangement with The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee.
