On Juy 21, Tony Award–winning playwright J.T. Rogers will debut his newly commissioned play One Giant Leap: The Apollo 11 Moon Landing, 50 Years On at New York City’s Town Hall.
The reading will star Tony nominee Lauren Ambrose, three-time Tony nominee Jeff Daniels, Tony nominee Danai Gurira, Tony nominee LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson, Drama Desk Award recipient Dakin Matthews, Tony nominee Arian Moayed, Tony nominee Kristine Nielsen, as well as What the Constitution Means to Me stars Rosdely Ciprian and Thursday Williams.
Directed by Bartlett Sher, One Giant Leap is based on the New York Times coverage of the Apollo 11 landing. The July 21 event will also include a conversation between the Michael Barbaro, host of the Times’ The Daily podcast; Michael Collins, the command module pilot on Apollo 11; Poppy Northcutt, Apollo program mathematician and the first female engineer to work in NASA’s Mission Control Center during Apollo 8; and Peggy Whitson, first female commander of the International Space Station.
Attendees will also be able to “explore the moon”through VR simulation at Town Hall.
