London News Giles Terera, More Will Star in U.K. Premiere of Passing Strange

The 2008 musical by Stew and Heidi Rodewald begins performances at London's Young Vic May 14.

London's Young Vic has found its cast for the upcoming U.K. premiere of Passing Strange, set to hit the stage May 14 ahead of a May 21 opening night. The run will continue through July 6, with Liesl Tommy at the helm.

The cast will be led by Giles Terera (Hamilton) as Narrator, Rachel Adedeji (Dreaming Whilst Black) as Mother, and Keenan Munn-Francis (Black Dog) as Youth.

Also featured will be David Albury as Rev Jones, Terry, Christophe, and Hugo; Nadia Violet Johnson as Edwina, Marianna, and Sudabey; Renée Lamb as Desi, Sherry, and Renata; and Caleb Roberts as Mr. Franklin, Joop, and Mr. Venus.

The production's band will feature Ikechukwu Onwuagbu on bass, Nick Pinchbeck on keyboards and guitar, James Taylor on drums, and Art Terry on keyboards and guitar.

The musical, following a young, Black musician on a quest to find himself, premiered on Broadway in 2008, featuring a book and lyrics by Stew and music by Stew and Heidi Rodewald. Stew won a 2008 Tony Award for his book.

The Young Vic's production will feature set and costume design by Ben Stones, lighting design by Richard Howell, sound design by Tom Gibbons, video design by Will Duke, music supervision by Brandon Michael Nase, music direction by Art Terry, and choreography by Dickson Mbi. Casting is by Heather Basten, and Hazel Holder will serve as voice and dialect coach.
