International News Ghost the Musical to Launch U.K. Tour This Summer

Bob Tomson will direct the tour of the musical based on the blockbuster film of the same name.

Bill Kenwright Ltd will produce a U.K. tour of Ghost the Musical beginning August 22 at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre.

Directed by Bob Tomson with choreography by Alistair David, the production will subsequently play the Sunderland Empire (August 27-31), Liverpool Empire (September 3-7), Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre (September 10-14), Darlington Hippodrome (September 24-28), Cheltenham Everyman (October 1-5), Curve Theatre Leicester (October 8-12), Princess Theatre Torquay (October 15-18), Belgrade Coventry (October 22-26), Alhambra Theatre Bradford (October 29-November 2), Aberdeen His Majesty’s Theatre (November 5-9), Stoke Regent Theatre (November 12-16), Theatre Royal Bath (November 19-23), and Blackpool Opera House (December 3-7).

Further tour dates and casting will be announced at a later time.

Based on the Paramount Pictures film of the same name, the musical has a book and lyrics by the film's Oscar-winning screenwriter, Bruce Joel Rubin, and music and lyrics by Dave Stewart and Grammy winner Glen Ballard. Ghost the Musical also includes the iconic "Unchained Melody," written by Hy Zaret and Alex North, which was featured in the blockbuster film starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg.

The forthcoming tour will also have design by Mark Bailey with lighting design by Nick Richings, sound design by Dan Samson, and illusions by Richard Pinner.

The musical follows Molly, who, walking back to her apartment one night, sees her boyfriend Sam murdered. With the help of a phony storefront psychic, Sam, trapped between this world and the next, tries to communicate with Molly in the hope of saving her from grave danger.

Premiering in Manchester in 2011, Ghost the Musical subsequently played Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre March-August 2012 and the West End as well as numerous international tours.
