Kafkaesque!, a new musical mash-up of the stories of Franz Kafka, begins its world premiere Off-Broadway at 154 Christopher Street October 18, but Playbill has a special preview of the show from inside the rehearsal room. See Alexandra Nader and show writer and star James Harvey sing "The Hunger Artist" in the video above.
The Off-Broadway run will continue through November 15.
With a book, music, and lyrics by Harvey, Kafkaesque! transplants the predicaments from Kafka's stories (including The Trial and The Metamorphosis) onto one contemporary American family. The work played a developmental run at 2023's New York Theater Festival.
Joining Harvey as Kafka will be Nader as Greta, Josh Nasser as Michael, Emily Olcott as Karen and Josephine, and Curry Whitmire as Gregor.
Ashley Brooke Monroe is directing, leading a creative team that includes choreographer Sara Gibbons, scenic designer Taylor Friel, costume designer Maggie Walsh, and lighting designer Bentley Heydt.
Patrick Trettenero and Staro Industries are producing.
Tickets are available via OvationTix.
