The world premiere of The Refuge Plays by Nathan Alan Davis is underway at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre, where it began previews September 16. Opening night is set for October 11, and the play will run through November 12. Get a first look at the production with newly released production shots below.
Produced by Roundabout Theatre Company in association with New York Theatre Workshop, the new work is directed by Patricia McGregor. The play follows a single Black family over 70 years, beginning deep in the woods of Southern Illinois with a ghost delivering a foreboding message of death.
The cast includes Ngozi Jane Anyanwu, Jerome Preston Bates, Jessica Frances Dukes, Jon Michael Hill, Mallori Taylor Johnson, Lizan Mitchell, Nicole Ari Parker, Daniel J. Watts, Lance Coadie Williams, and JJ Wynderas.
The show features sets by Arnulfo Maldonado, costumes by Emilio Sosa, lighting by Stacey Derosier, original music and sound by Marc Anthony Thompson, hair and wigs by Earon Nealey, make-up by J. Jared Janas. Composer Imani Uzuri provides vocal soundscape design, Paloma McGregor is movement coordinator, Anna Morton Stacy is dramaturg, and Sordelet Inc's Rick Sordelet is fight director.
