Tony winner Gavin Creel returns to his roles as The Wolf and Cinderella's Prince in the Broadway revival of Into the Woods August 6 at the St. James Theatre. The performer has been out of the show since July 24, temporarily leaving for a residency at The O’Neill National Musical Theatre Conference to present his self-penned theatrical concert Walk on Through: Confessions of a Museum Novice.
Cheyenne Jackson, who performed the roles in the 2019 Hollywood Bowl production, stepped in to cover for Creel July 24–August 2, with company member Jason Forbach filling in August 3–5.
The New York City Center Encores! production of the Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine musical recently announced both an extension to its run, now through October 16, and an upcoming cast album.
Into the Woods is directed by Lear deBessonet, with music direction by Rob Berman with The Encores! Orchestra, and choreography by Lorin Latarro. It features an all-star cast (all of whom have extended their contracts through September 4), including Sara Bareilles, Brian d'Arcy James, Patina Miller, Phillipa Soo, Joshua Henry, and Creel, along with Julia Lester, Cole Thompson, David Patrick Kelly, Annie Golden, Nancy Opel, Aymee Garcia, Ta'Nika Gibson, Albert Guerzon, Brooke Ishibashi, Kennedy Kanagawa, David Turner, and Alysia Velez. Rounding out the company as understudies are Delphi Borich, Felicia Curry, Jason Forbach, Alex Joseph Grayson, Cameron Johnson, Paul Kreppel, Mary Kate Moore, Diane Phelan, and Lucia Spina.
