Menier Chocolate Factory has announced the full cast for its upcoming world premiere of Close Up—The Twiggy Musical, which begins previews September 18 at the London venue.
Joining the previously announced Elena Skye (Kinky Boots, Les Misérables) as Twiggy will be Lauren Azania AJ King-Yombo as Kay, Matt Corner as Justin de Villeneuve, Darren Day as Michael Witney, Beth Devine as Sally, Aoife Dunne as Cindy, Hannah-Jane Fox as Nell Hornby, and Steven Serlin as Norman Hornby, with Emma-Katie Adcock, Liam Buckland, Harriet Bunton, Leanne Garretty, Luke Johnson, David McIntosh, Danny Nattrass, Sydney Spencer, and Karen Walker.
Written and directed by Ben Elton (We Will Rock You, Love Never Dies), the production will open September 27 for a run through November 18.
The previously announced world premiere explores the life of Twiggy, the world's first supermodel. In the mid-1960s, Twiggy became an iconic face of the decade at the age of 16. Close Up tells her story of triumph and the challenges she faced with sexism and snobbery as she made her way from a London suburb to Hollywood and Broadway. The score features hit songs of the era.
Twiggy said in a statement, “It’s very unexpected, but truly an honor, to see my own life translated onto stage—and I can’t imagine a better, more generous, collaborator than Ben. I’ve been approached before about sharing my story, but never has the alchemy felt so right.”
Also featured on the creative team are choreographer Jacob Fearey, set and video designer Tim Bird, costume designer Jonathan Lipman, sound designer Gregory Clarke, and music supervisor, director, and orchestrator Stuart Morley.
