Atlantic Records will release weekly soundtrack albums to accompany each of the eight episodes of FX's Fosse/Verdon, the new limited series offering an inside look at the lives and careers of Broadway choreographer Bob Fosse and his muse (and one-time wife) Gwen Verdon. The show premiered April 9.
The albums will feature full song performances, often heard only partially in the episodes themselves. The first album, now available for streaming and purchase on digital platforms (iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify), includes "Big Spender" from Sweet Charity performed by Bianca Marroquín (Chicago on Broadway) and Rema Webb (The Color Purple), as well as the title song from Cabaret performed by Kelli Barrett (Wicked, Doctor Zhivago).
The premiere album also includes supervising music producer Alex Lacamoire (Hamilton, In the Heights)'s original theme song for the series.
Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams star as Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon respectively in this new series from executive producers (and Hamilton collaborators) Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail, George Stelzner, Joel Fields, Nicole Fosse, and Dear Evan Hansen bookwriter Steven Levenson (who penned the series' first episode and serves as showrunner).
Recreating such iconic Fosse and Verdon staples as "Who's Got the Pain?" and "Hot Honey Rag" are choreographers Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, Cats) and Broadway alum Susan Misner, also appearing as Joan McCracken.
Along with Marroquín, Webb, and Barrett, the cast includes such Broadway vets as Norbert Leo Butz (as playwright Paddy Chayefsky), Ethan Slater (as Cabaret film star Joel Grey, and Laura Osnes (as Sweet Charity film star Shirley MacLaine).
Fosse/Verdon airs Tuesdays at 10PM ET on FX.
