Verkaik will play Tarzan's adoptive ape mother, Kala. In a statement, Verkaik said "The role of Kala is not only a vocal and an acting challenge, but also a physical one. I will, like all other apes, literally fly above the audiences. Something like that doesn’t happen in any other musical, and that's what makes Tarzan unique.

Verkaik is known for her work as Donna Sheridan in the German production of Mamma Mia and for her voice work as Elsa in the Dutch version of Disney's "Frozen".

Disney's Tarzan, produced by Stage Entertainment, premiered in Hamburg in 2006, and officially transferred to Stuttgart, where it is currently playing, in 2014. Tarzan tells the story of Tarzan, a young man who was raised by apes, and his first encounters with other humans.

Tarzan features music and lyrics by Oscar-winner Phil Collins, and a book by David Henry Hwang.
