Follies star Tracie Bennett has been cast as cutting theatre critic Lita in the upcoming U.K. premiere of Marvin Laird and Joel Paley's Ruthless! The Musical at London's Arts Theatre.
Directed by Richard Fitch, the satire will begin March 16 prior to an official opening March 27. The limited engagement will continue through June 23.
Bennett, Tony-nominated for her Broadway debut in End of the Rainbow, will be joined by Kim Maresca as Judy Denmark (a role she played in the recent Off-Broadway run of Ruthless!), Jason Gardiner as Sylvia St. Croix, Lara Denning as Louise Lerman/Eve, and Harriet Thorpe as Myrna Thorn. The young actors who will alternate in the role of Tina Denmark will be announced shortly.
The musical tells the story of the beautiful and talented eight-year-old Tina Denmark who will do anything to play the lead in her school play. The show famously spoofs Broadway musicals from Gypsy to Mame as well as iconic films including The Bad Seed and All About Eve.
The production will feature choreography by Rebecca Howell, design by Morgan Large, lighting design by Tim Lutkin, sound design by Gregory Clarke, and musical supervision by Gareth Valentine.
The Menier Chocolate Factory will act as executive producer and general manager for the U.K. premiere. Producers are Evan Sacks, Darren Bagert, Adam Mackie, Kenneth Schur, and Maxine Paul.
The Arts Theatre is located at Great Newport Street, London. For ticket information, visit RuthlessTheMusical.com.
