Olivia Colman, Clare Burt and Tom Hardy star in London Road, the movie version of the unusual London musical that uses verbatim quotes and transcripts from the case of Steve Wright, who killed five prostitutes in the city of Ipswitch in 2006-08, as its lyrics and dialog.
The film uses Alecky Blythe’s book and lyrics and Adam Cork's music and lyrics.
London Road, which was released in the U.K. in June 2015, and seen in North America at the 2015 Toronto Film Festival, gets its U.S. premiere September 9 under the auspices of BBC Worldwide North America.
Neither the killer nor any of his victims is a character in the musical, which focuses exclusively on the people of Ipswich and their reaction to the unfolding case.
The show premiered in 2011 at the National Theatre and was nominated for Best New Musical in the 2012 Olivier Awards.
