The film adaptation of Space//Space, Jason Craig's claustrophobic and existential play set in a space capsule, will premiere January 14, 2023 at 7:00 PM at the Anthology Film Archives. An encore screening on January 15 at 1:30 PM will also be offered, and artist talkbacks will be held after each screening. Watch a trailer for the upcoming release above.
The film, which reimagines the piece in the context of the COVID-19 lockdown, serves as a video document of two brothers trapped together in a space capsule, isolated in an increasingly pressurized environment. As the context of the play degrades, the film transforms into the story of a married couple trying desperately to co-exist, while the artists grapple with their sense of purpose and preservation.
Co-written for the screen by Craig and Alex Harvey, Space//Space is directed by writer Harvey (Walden: Life in the Woods, I Am a Seagull, The Unsilent Picture), and stars Jessica Jelliffe (Yale Repertory’s Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls, Botch, Shadows) and writer Jason Craig.
The 2012 theatrical production of Space//Space played a three-week run at The Collapsable Hole in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The production was supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts’ Individual Artist Commission.
The production team for Space//Space features cinematography by Miklos Buk (Come Find Me, Walden: A Life in the Woods), editing and sound design by Alex Harvey and production design by Banana Bag & Bodice. Space//Space is produced by Series Fest award-winning Anne Troup (Human Interest), Jessica Jelliffe, Jason Craig and Alex Harvey.
