Amy Berryman’s Walden, directed by Whitney White (Jaja's African Hair Braiding), begins previews Off-Broadway at Second Stage October 16, prior to an official opening November 7 at the Tony Kiser Theater.

The production will feature screen stars Emmy Rossum and Zoë Winters as two estranged sisters struggling to align.

Set in the near future, Walden follows Stella and her fiancé Bryan, who are waiting at their cabin for Stella’s estranged twin sister, Cassie. Raised by their astronaut father to be NASA scientists, the twins have taken different paths: Cassie has just returned from a successful moon mission, while Stella has left NASA behind. When they reunite, old conflicts reignite, forcing the sisters to choose between staying on Earth or pursuing a future in space.

Further casting is to be announced.

Rossum is an acclaimed actress, singer, producer and director best known for her role as Fiona Gallagher in Shameless, and as Christine in the film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, earning a Golden Globe nomination. Walden will mark her off-Broadway debut.

Winters returns to the Off-Broadway stage after her breakout role as Kerry on the HBO's Succession, for which she and the cast received the 2024 SAG Award for Best Drama Ensemble. Winters' Off-Broadway credits include Heroes of the Fourth Turning at Playwrights Horizons, for which she received Obie and Lucille Lortel nominations; White Noise opposite Daveed Diggs at the Public Theatre; Small Mouth Sounds at the Signature; and Amy Herzog’s 4000 Miles at Lincoln Center.

Walden received its world premiere, presented by Sonia Friedman Productions, in May 2021 at London's Harold Pinter Theatre, followed by its American premiere at TheatreWorks in Hartford, Connecticut, in August 2021.

The Off-Broadway production will feature scenic design by Matt Saunders, costume design by Qween Jean, lighting design by Adam Honoré, and sound design by Lee Kinney. Casting is by Taylor Williams.
