Held at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition, the awards honored outstanding performances in 2014 in five film and eight television categories.
The ceremony was broadcast on TNT and TBS.
The cast of "Birdman," about an actor struggling to make a comeback on Broadway, won Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The film also received nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role (Michael Keaton), Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Edward Norton) and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role (Emma Stone).
Eddie Redmayne, who won a Tony Award in 2010 for his performance in Red, won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his role as Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything." Nominations in that category also went to Benedict Cumberbatch for "The Imitation Game" and Jake Gyllenhaal for "Nightcrawler." Cumberbatch was also nominated for "Sherlock: His Last Vow."
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role went to Julianne Moore, who made her Broadway debut in 2006 in The Vertical Hour, for her performance in "Still Alice." Mark Ruffalo won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for his performance in "The Normal Heart." Julia Roberts also received a nomination for her role in the TV movie adaptation of Larry Kramer's award-winning play.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries went to Tony Award winner Frances McDormand for "Olive Kitteridge."
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series went to Kevin Spacey for "House of Cards," and Viola Davis, a two-time Tony Award winner, won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her starring role in "How to Get Away With Murder."
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series went to the acclaimed period drama "Downtown Abbey."
