Dominique Morisseau’s Tony-nominated Skeleton Crew will be part of Michael Longhurst’s final season as artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse.

The 2016 play, seen on Broadway in 2022, replaces the previously announced production of Eboni Booth’s Primary Trust, which due to unforeseen circumstances will no longer be part of the Donmar’s 2024 season.

The forthcoming Donmar production will mark the U.K. premiere of Skeleton Crew. Previews will begin June 28 prior to an official opening July 4 for a limited run through August 24. Olivier winner Matthew Xia will direct with casting to be announced at a later date.

The play is set in 2008 Detroit as one of the city’s last surviving car factories is threatened with closure and a tight-knit group of workers face crushing economic reality.

The Broadway production was nominated for three Tony Awards, including Best Play. Phylicia Rashad won the Tony for her performance as Faye.

Skeleton Crew is part of Morisseau's The Detroit Project, a three-play cycle that also includes Paradise Blue (Signature Theatre) and Detroit ’67 (Public Theater, Classical Theatre of Harlem, and NBT). Skeleton Crew was developed at the at the 2014 Sundance Theatre Institute Lab and made its world premiere in 2016 at Atlantic Theater Company.

The Donmar season also includes The Human Body (through April 13) and The Cherry Orchard (April 26-June 22). The theatre's recent production of Next to Normal will transfer to the West End with performances beginning at Wyndham's Theatre June 18.
