Laura Dreyfuss is the most recent Dear Evan Hansen alum to join the cast of Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Netflix series The Politician, according to Deadline.
Earlier this year, Dreyfuss’ co-star, Tony winner Ben Platt, was announced to lead the series from the producer of American Horror Story, Pose, and Broadway’s The Boys in the Band.
Previously, there were rumblings that the comedy was hoping to cast actors Gwyneth Paltrow and Barbra Streisand—though no official announcements have been made regarding their involvement.
Dreyfuss joins the cast as a series regular alongside Platt, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, and Rahne Jones. The series will follow Platt's character Payton through his various political pursuits and is expected to have musical numbers in multiple episodes.
Murphy, who will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer, will work again with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who serve as writers and executive producers.
Dreyfuss made her Broadway debut in 2011 as a swing in the Broadway revival of Hair, also understudying the roles of Sheila and Crissy. She then joined the company of Once in 2012. She played her final performance as Zoe Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen July 15, having originated the role in Washington, D.C., Off-Broadway, and on Broadway. Mallory Bechtel replaces her in the 2017 Tony-winning Best Musical beginning July 31.
