The McCarter Theatre Center's world premiere of Choice, penned by Wicked book writer Winnie Holzman, officially opens May 18 after beginning previews May 8 at the New Jersey venue's Berlind Theatre. Performances will continue through June 2.
The cast includes Ilana Levine (You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Seinfeld) as Zippy, Kate Mulligan (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as Erica, Dakin Matthews (Waitress, To Kill a Mockingbird) as Clark, Jake Cannavale (Fish in the Dark) as Hunter, Tony nominee Caitlin Kinnunen (The Prom) as Zoe/Leah or Lena, and Barzin Akhavan (Network) as Mark/The Other Mark. Casting is by Karyn Casl of The Telsey Company.
Sarah Rasmussen directs the production. The creative team also includes scenic designer Andrew Boyce, costume designer Raquel Adorno, lighting designer Masha Tsimring, sound designer André Pluess, dialect and vocal coach Liz Hayes, intimacy coordinator Alicia Rodis, dramaturg Julie Felise Dubiner, production stage manager Alison Cote, and assistant stage manager Matthew Luppino.
“This is a dream team, all-star ensemble cast to bring Winnie’s wildly timely, funny and deeply heartfelt play to life,” Rasmussen said in an earlier statement. “I’ve loved Winnie’s humanity and humor ever since I started watching her shows as a kid. It’s been one of the great honors of my career to develop this new version of Choice. It’s such a heartfelt, intergenerational, and wise look into the choices that make up a life—and one I can’t wait to share with audiences.”
