International News Curve Production of An Officer and a Gentleman Musical Will Tour the U.K.

Nikolai Foster will direct the musical based on the 1982 film.

The Curve production of An Officer and a Gentleman, based on the 1982 Oscar-winning film starring Richard Gere and Debra Winger, will tour the U.K. beginning February 23, 2024, at the Birmingham Alexandra.

Nikolai Foster, artistic director of the Curve, will direct the tour, which is scheduled to continue through November 16, 2024. Click here for the current itinerary. 

An Officer and a Gentleman, which has a book by Douglas Day Stewart and Sharleen Cooper Cohen, follows Zack Mayo, a young officer candidate, and Paula Pokrifki, whose fiery spirit matches his own. Their encounters ignite a spark that defies all odds. The score includes hits by Madonna, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Blondie, and more, including the award-winning "(Love Lift Us) Up Where We Belong."

Casting will be announced at a later date.

Director Foster says, “Filled with love and quiet profundity, An Officer and a Gentleman sensitively charts the lives of working class, military folk in America in the early 1980s. We are proud to be working alongside the film’s creator Douglas Day Stewart, producer Jamie Wilson, Sharleen Cooper Cohen, and an incredible creative team to present this beautiful and inspiring story. We are excited to share some iconic '80s songs and this moving story with audiences across the U.K.”

The upcoming tour will also have choreography by Joanna Goodwin, musical supervision and orchestration by George Dyer, set and costume design by Michael Taylor, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Tom Marshall, wig, hair and make-up design by Sam Cox, and casting by Debbie O’Brien.

This Made at Curve production is produced by Jamie Wilson, Jack Maple, Gavin Kalin, and Jason Haigh-Ellery in association with Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros Theatre Ventures.
