Her performance has already been caught on both CD and also film (recorded in October for a yet-to-be-scheduled Christmas showing on BBC television). But now lead producer Michael Harrison has revealed that Staunton's journey with the show may not yet be over.

In a press interview with the Daily Mail, lead producer Michael Harrison commented, "We are actively pursuing and trying to work out the right way to go to New York with Imelda in Gypsy."



Staunton has already won the U.K Theatre Award and Evening Standard Theatre Awards for Best Musical Performance. Still to come are the Critics' Circle Theatre Awards (in January) and the Laurence Olivier Awards in April.

Broadway has seen two Gypsy revivals in the 21st century: Bernadette Peters' production in 2003 and Patti LuPone's in 2008. Neither was financially successful. The musical, originally produced with Ethel Merman in 1959, tells the story of Burlesque stripper Gypsy Rose Lee and her relationship with her singleminded mother Rose.
