A new musical The Show on the Roof, with a book by Tom Ford and songs by Alex Syiek, will receive a private, invite-only industry reading September 11 at Open Jar Studios in NYC.
The new work explores the Lavender Scare, centering on a defunct drive-in restaurant in Boise, Idaho, and the societal and political pressures that shut it down. The work played a world premiere run at Boise Contemporary Theatre in 2022.
Starring in the reading will be Lucas Dixon, Ford, Caitlin Houlahan, Jillian Kates, Terrence Mann, Colton Ryan, Marguerite Stimpson, and Syiek. Casting is by Taylor Williams.
Rory Pelsue is directing, with music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements by Jacob Fjeldheim. Elizabeth Allen is production stage manager, and Abi Rowe is assistant stage manager. ShowTown Theatricals is general managing.
Alexander Robertson of Emlex Entertainment is producing. The reading is presented with the support of The Shubert Organization Artistic Circle.
