The Mirvish theatre season in Toronto, Canada, remains in flux as more changes have been revealed due to the surge of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. While productions of & Juliet and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child remain mostly unaffected, four other shows have had their dates pushed back, while another show, the Chichester production of Singin' in the Rain has been added to the slate, replacing the previously canceled Leopoldstadt.

“Health and safety is always our primary concern,” says David Mirvish. "Right now is not the time to have performances taking place. Indeed, the Ontario government has rightly closed all indoor theatres until January 27. Giving ourselves a buffer of three months before we resume performances is deemed prudent. We now look to reopen our theatres at the beginning of April.” Mirvish added that schedules could continue to change in the future.

The page-to-stage adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s Room will now play April 5–May 8 at the Princess of Wales Theatre. The new play features songs by Scottish songwriters Kathryn Joseph and Cora Bissett, the latter also directing the production. Room is co-produced with the Grand Theatre in London, Canada, and Covent Garden Productions, in London, England. The production will play at the Grand in March and then transfer for a five-week run in Toronto.

Also at the Royal Alexandra will be Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt’s 2 Pianos, 4 Hands, tickling the ivories June 7–July 17.

Singin’ in the Rain, directed by Jonathan Church with choreography by Andrew Wright and designs by Simon Higlett, will play the Princess of Wales Theatre in September. More information, including a performance schedule and casting, will be revealed later.

The previously announced stagings of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will begin performances May 31 at the Ed Mirvish Theatre while & Juliet begins June 21 at the Princess of Wales Theatre.
