Los Angeles News Center Theatre Group Will Bring LeBron James Play to Los Angeles The Lakers star is the subject of King James, the latest play from Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo playwright Rajiv Joseph.

King James, Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph’s new play inspired by the life and career of NBA star LeBron James, will play the Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles during the 2020-2021 season, according to the LA Times.

The production is slated to premiere at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre in May 2020 ahead of its Los Angeles debut later that year. Dates of production for the L.A. run have not been set.

King James focuses on the the NBA player's impact on the city of Cleveland during his initial 11-year run with the Cavaliers.

Tony Award winner Anna Shapiro (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) will direct the production that stars Steppenwolf ensemble member Glenn Davis as the NBA legend.

Joseph’s Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo premiered at the Geffen in 2010 prior to its transfer to Broadway in 2011. Joseph’s plays also include Gruesome Playground Injuries, Animals Out of Paper, and Guards at the Taj.
