PlayCo and WP Theater have announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of Corinne Jaber's Munich Medea: Happy Family. Performances begin January 30, with opening night set for February 12 at WP Theater. The run will continue through February 25.
The cast features Crystal Finn (Birthday Candles) as Caroline, Heather Raffo (Noura) as Alice, and Kurt Rhoads (Julius Caesar) as the Father. Lee Sunday Evans will direct.
Munich Medea tells the story of Caroline and Alice, two childhood friends who reconnect after over 20 years and begin to unravel shared memories. The pair discovers that Caroline's father played a different role in each of their lives, and begin to come to terms with their past.
“Corinne's play goes to very uncomfortable places and is unusually candid and complicated," Evans says. "It doesn’t equivocate about right versus wrong, but it’s a complex and deep exploration of the power dynamics that are part of sex and gender relationships and belonging and how that relates to identity. What impressed me most is it’s a story about hard-won resilience that manages to never sentimentalize it.”
The creative team includes scenic designer Kristen Robinson, lighting designer Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, costume designer Dina El-Aziz, magic designer Skylar Fox, production stage manager Jaimie Van Dyke, properties supervisor Samantha Tutasi, and sound designers UptownWorks/Daniela Hart, Noel Nichols, and Bailey Trierweiler.
