The Public Theater celebrates the official opening of Pulitzer Prize winner Bruce Norris’ The Low Road March 7, an ambitious new drama about the birth of capitalism in America. The U.S. premiere, which began performances February 13, is directed Off-Broadway by Dear Evan Hansen's Michael Greif.
Set in the 18th century, The Low Road imagines America’s first laissez-faire capitalist, played by Looking's Chris Perfetti. Billed as a “parable about the true cost of inequality,” the play follows the young man’s path to riches at whatever cost.
Completing the cast are Tony winner Harriet Harris, three-time Tony nominee Kevin Chamberlin, Tessa Albertson, Max Baker, Daniel Davis, Crystal A. Dickinson, Gopal Divan, Jack Hatcher, Josh Henderson, Chukwudi Iwuji, Johnny Newcomb, Susannah Perkins, Richard Poe, Dave Quay, Aaron Michael Ray, Joseph Soeder, and Danny Wolohan.
The production features scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Matt Tierney, wig, hair, and make-up design by design J. Jared Janas and Dave Bova, and music composition by Mark Bennett.
Norris’ plays include A Parallelogram, which recently played Off-Broadway, as well as Clybourne Park, The Qualms, The Unmentionables, The Pain and the Itch, and Purple Heart.
