Broadway’s Monica Kapoor leads the workout at Garjana

On October 16, Broadway dancers gather to lead an immersive experience in celebration of World Food Day.

Organized by Food Tank, the happy-hour workout event—known as Garjana—will take place 5:30–7 PM at the Union Square Ballroom. Led by Broadway’s Monica Kapoor (Mamma Mia!, Smash), the workout encourages a healthy lifestyle through music and art.

Helping her lead the dance routine are other Broadway dancers: Michelle Dowdy, who previously played Tracy Turnblad in Broadway’s Hairspray; Albert Guerzon of Mamma Mia!, Honeymoon in Vegas, and the upcoming Margaritaville; Halle Morse, currently Off-Broadway in The Marvelous Wonderettes as well as Mamma Mia!; Tony Gonzalez of Mamma Mia! and the national tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; and Robin Levine, also of Mamma Mia! and the choreographer of From Here to Eternity.

The proceeds from the ticket revenue of today’s event support relief efforts in Puerto Rico and Dominica via #GiveHealthy, Feeding America, and the World Food Program USA.

In addition to getting attendees on their feet, there will also be performances by Dance in Tribeca, NYC Bollywood Funk, Learn Bhangra, Lotus Creations Academy of Performing Arts, Broadway Bodies, and Fit4Dance.
