Cumulative grosses on Broadway fell nearly 20% from $27.6 million to $22.2 million. The drop isn't altogether surprising, with The Music Man on hiatus last week and Dear Evan Hansen canceling both of its performances August 20. The 20 remaining shows still managed to fill 89.45% of their seats, with a cumulative average ticket price of $122.30.
The Music Man's absence left the top spot to Hamilton with the Into the Woods revival close behind, both pulling in more than $2 million. Next in line were The Lion King, MJ The Musical, and Wicked, each breaking the $1.5 million mark.
Broadway may be slightly short on productions at the moment—20 Broadway theatres are currently dark—but the seats that are there to sell are still largely being sold. Hamilton, MJ, Into the Woods, and Dear Evan Hansen all resorted to standing room this week, exceeding 100% capacity, with half of the shows currently running on the Main Stem filling 90% of their seats or more.
