Maine's Ogunquit Playhouse has announced its 2023 season, including the regional premiere of Tootsie, an international production of On Your Feet, the American Premiere of The Da Vinci Code, and more.
The season will kick off May 11 with the previously announced return engagement of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which made its regional premiere at Ogunquit in 2022. Next up will be the theatrical adaptation of the classic movie musical Singin' In The Rain, playing June 15–July 15.
A new international production of On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, will play from July 20 through August 19 under the eye of director-choreographer Luis Salgado, who was a member of the original Broadway production, and the director-choreographer behind the most recent national tour.
Beginning August 24, The Da Vinci Code will make its American premiere. Adapted by Rachel Wagstaff and Duncan Abel, the production previously enjoyed a successful U.K. tour led by & Juliet director Luke Sheppard, who will return for the U.S. premiere. Based on Dan Brown's novel of the same name, the bestseller was considered a literary phenomenon, selling more than 100 million copies in addition to serving as the source for a 2006 film starring Tom Hanks.
The season will come to a close in the autumn with the regional premiere of David Yazbeck and Robert Horn's musical adaptation of Tootsie, playing September 28 to October 29. These five mainstage productions will be joined by various Music Hall offerings, including Million Dollar Quartet, and more.
