A casting notice posted February 6 reveals an in-development musical with a score by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Alicia Keys. Titled Hell's Kitchen, the work is seeking actors for a three-week developmental workshop via Off-Broadway's The Public Theater, to be held sometime between May 24 and June 18. Specific dates have not yet been determined.

Keys has teamed with The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity playwright Kristoffer Diaz, who is penning the work's book. Michael Greif is directing, with Camille A. Brown choreographing. Adam Blackstone and Erskine Hawkins are music directing.

Details on the project are scarce, though the work will follow a young girl growing up in New York City's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood in the 1990s, according to the audition notice. Principal roles appear to have been cast, including Ali; her mother, Jersey; a love interest, Knuck; Ali's piano teacher, Miss Liza Jane; her father, Davis; and two ensemble roles playing Ali's friends and neighbors. The notice is looking to find five additional ensemble members to play various neighbors and friends aged everywhere from 18 to 40s-50s.

The project would not be Keys' first theatrical endeavor. The "Fallin'" singer both produced and composed original music for the 2011 Broadway premiere of Lydia R. Diamond's play Stick Fly.
