The reading of 3C, to be followed by a panel discussion with the playwright and attorney Bruce Johnson, will take place 8 PM Oct. 26 at The New School's auditorium.
Adjmi’s 3C, a dark and comic reimagining of the TV sitcom "Three's Company," premiered Off-Broadway at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater in 2012. After its opening, the playwright received a cease-and-desist letter from DLT Entertainment claiming copyright infringement. Following failed negotiation attempts, Adjmi took the company to court, and the play has since been held in a kind of purgatory.
In April 2015, a federal judge in New York ruled that 3C did not infringe on the copyright of the TV series, allowing Adjmi to finally publish the script and authorize productions. Following the reading, Adjmi and Johnson will speak publicly about the court case and experience for the first time. The panel will be hosted by playwright and New School faculty member Jon Robin Baitz.
The Auditorium is located at 66 West 12th St. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Reservations are recommended and can be made by writing to 3Creading@gmail.com.
