David’s Mamet’s Race opened on Broadway December 6, 2009, at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. The production, which marked Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Kerry Washington’s Broadway debut, played 23 previews and 297 performances before closing August 21.

In addition to Washington, the production, also directed by Mamet, starred Emmy winner James Spader, three-time Tony nominee David Alan Grier, and Emmy winner Richard Thomas.

Mamet’s provocative legal drama tells the story of thee lawyers, two black and one white, discussing whether to defend a white man charged with a crime against black woman, testing the dynamics within the firm. The production would go on to earn Grier a Tony nomination.
