A.J. Shively will lead an upcoming concert presentation of Alexander Sage Oyen and Nora Brigid Monahan's new musical Tyrants. Hosted by the National Archives Foundation, the event will be open to the public, with showings October 6 and October 7 at the National Archives' William G. McGowan Theater in Washington, D.C.

Featuring a score by Oyen and a book by Monahan, the new work centers on Edwin Booth, brother to the infamous John Wilkes Booth and the namesake behind Broadway's Booth Theatre. All males of the Booth family, led by patriarch Junius Brutus Booth, were best known for their world-class performances of the works of William Shakespeare—that is, until John Wilkes assassinated President Lincoln and forever tainted the Booth name. In Tyrants, Edwin looks back to examine his own part in the creation of his extremist brother.

Joining Shively in the cast will be Jack Bowman as Francis Wilkeson, Thani Brant as Johnny Booth and Asia Booth, Jennifer Fouché as Laura Keene, Eric William Morris as John Wilkes Booth, T. Oliver Reid as Ira Aldridge, Thom Sesma as Junius Brutus Booth, Jason Tam as Adam Badeau, and Natalie Toro as Mary Ann Holmes.

John Simpkins is directing, with Cynthia Meng music directing. Allison Bressi is executive producer of the concert event, and Amy Sapp is associate producer. Tyrants is being produced by Robert Bowman and Hundred Nights Hamlet, LLC.
