Members of the musical about welcoming visitors to the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, took to the streets to welcome other visitors to the city and to their show.

As fans of Broadway's Come From Away know, visitors to Gander have one very important welcoming task to pass: kissing the cod.

One of the musical's most buoyant moments find the stranded passengers of the 38 planes grounded in the aftermath of 9/11 drinking in a local bar, and kissing a cod as part of a Newfoundland custom. But the fun doesn't stop on the stage of te Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Cast members from the hit musical took to the streets of Times Square to ask tourists to take their turn with the fish, as well. Directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley, with musical staging by two-time Tony Award nominee Kelly Devine and music supervision by Ian Eisendrath, Come From Away began performances on Broadway February 18, 2017, and officially opened to critical acclaim March 12 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

The musical features a book, music, and lyrics by the Canadian husband-and-wife team of Irene Sankoff and David Hein (My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding).
